Michelle Tafel

Michelle Tafel serves as the executive director of City Year Washington, D.C.  In this role, Michelle leads the site of about 30 staff and 150 AmeriCorps  members to achieve its mission and support DC students on social emotional  development, academic achievement, and attendance. Prior to joining City  Year in December 2017, Michelle was a member of College Summit’s  executive leadership team where she served as chief strategy and  advancement officer and chief innovation officer along with many other  roles since she began as an AmeriCorps VISTA in 2004. While earning her  bachelor’s degree, Michelle worked for a Washington, D.C.-based youth  leadership organization as a mentor, tutor, teacher, and founder of their young women’s program. She is a graduate of American University (Bachelor of Arts) and Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management (Master of Business Administration).
