Sia Smith-Miyazaki
Director of Engagements
She/Her
Sia (she/her) is a multiracial Black and Japanese woman born in Shikoku, Japan. A facilitator and a strategist, she is passionate about cultivating spaces and structures that deepen connections, affirm our humanity, and ultimately allow each one of us to thrive.
Her work at The Equity Lab builds on prior roles across postsecondary institutions and systems to cultivate conditions (mindsets, practices, and structures) for racial equity, including: Equity and Inclusion Fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Education; director at a non-profit organization supporting equity-driven institutional change across California community colleges; and co-leading intercultural competency workshops at New York University Abu Dhabi.
Sia never quite grew out of her “why” phase as a child; instead, curiosity is one of the core values that guide her leadership practice–deep introspection, recognizing the richness of people’s stories, while also continually pushing against the status quo.
She holds a BA in Sociology from Wellesley College and an Ed.M. from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Outside of work, she is nourished by all things noodles, her partner, and their two adorable cats.
